What military hierarchy did feudal Japan have?

I understand that a daimyo was above a samurai, and samurai had their own soldiers, but how did they organize them? Were there rankings to samurai? Were there samurai captains and colonels? Did the lower daimyo take these positions? If I am a powerful daimyo and I have weaker daimyo in my retinue who have soldiers of their own, is that the organization that I use? What if my men account for fifty percent of the people on my side in a battle, how do I organize them?
